INDIANAPOLIS -- Three days after taking 16 hits, Andrew Luck missed Wednesdays practice with a sore throwing shoulder.Luck said it was just sore, downplaying the obvious concern his absence will raise among fans. He said he hopes to return to practice Thursday and plans to play Sunday as the Colts try to avoid their first 0-3 start in five years, when San Diego comes to town.It was a physical game, like any football game, so the coaches and training staff thought it was best if I didnt go out on the field, he told reporters, acknowledging he didnt practice at all Wednesday. The Colts have already been hit hard by injuries, mostly on defense, but this could be the toughest one yet.Last season, Luck got hurt in September and wound up missing nine games with multiple injuries, including a lacerated kidney that kept him out of the last seven games. Even when Luck did play in 2015, he didnt look right, going 2-5 and throwing 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Colts responded by using four of their eight draft picks to revamp the offensive line, which so far has had mixed results. In a season-opening loss, the Colts offensive line allowed two sacks and five hits.In the Week 2 loss at Denver, Luck was sacked five times, threw an interception that was returned for one touchdown and lost a fumble that was returned for another.Luck didnt say when he was injured in the game, but at that pace, Luck would be sacked 56 times and take an additional 128 hits.Earlier this year, Luck and coach Chuck Pagano said there was a plan to help Luck stay healthy this season, and that it could lead to Luck appearing on injury reports periodically. Hes already shown up three times as a limited participant this season. This absence was not by design.I dont raise the alarms, thats you guys, Luck said, drawing laughter from reporters. Ill come in tomorrow and defer to the coaches and training staff and well see.Luck said Wednesday is normally the day the Colts normally install the bulk of their game plan, but he said he didnt believe it would affect him much if he does play Sunday.Pagano did not talk about Lucks injury before practice and will not be available again until Friday. Indys offensive and defensive coordinators are scheduled to talk Thursday. If Luck cant play, the Colts would start Scott Tolzien -- the only other quarterback on their active roster. Tolzien made his only two starts in Green Bay when Aaron Rodgers was injured during the 2013 season. They also have Stephen Morris on the practice squad.---Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP-NFL Cheap Custom Marlins Jersey . -- Cam Newton pranced into the end zone, placed his hands over his chest and did his familiar Superman pose. SEATTLE -- Having already been bit by the injury bug, starting pitchers Wily Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers and Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners head into Saturdays showdown with a little bit of momentum. Both starters recently came off the disabled list and have had some success as they try to work their way back into form.Hernandez (7-4) has gone 3-0 since coming off the disabled list on July 20, and he has had two of his stronger outings his last two times out.Peralta (5-8) was already having a pretty rough season before an oblique strain landed him on the disabled list for nearly two months. Since his return, he has been a lot more effective, holding two opponents to a combined eight hits and three runs in 12 innings.Hell have his work cut out for him against a Seattle team that piled up 11 hits on Friday night and has won 11 of its past 14 games. The Mariners hit three home runs in a game that came against a rare left-handed Milwaukee starter. Rookie southpaw Brent Suter made his major-league debut, marking the first time in 474 games -- nearly three years -- that the Brewers have started a lefty.I think its a little fluky, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. Its certainly nothing to do with player development ... the intention of how we acquire players. Its just a funny statistic. Its not meant to be that way.Seattle has already used six different left-handed starters this season, as the Mariners have struggled through innjuries on their pitching staff.dddddddddddd The Hernandez injury was the most crushing blow, but Seattle has hit its stride since he returned from the disabled list.A big part of the Mariners resurgence has been a rebuilt bullpen that includes rookie closer Edwin Diaz, whom Brewers slugger Ryan Braun said late Friday night has some of the best stuff going in the game right now. That came after a rare ninth inning of struggles for Diaz, who walked three batters and gave up a two-run single but survived for his ninth save of the season.Hes human, manager Scott Servais said. Hes not a robot. Hes not going to strike every one of them out every night throwing 100 miles per hour. We asked him tonight to go out and get three outs before they scored three runs, and he did that. The man Diaz replaced as closer, Steve Cishek, returned to the bullpen after a 2 1/2-week stint on the disabled list. It was one of several moves made by the Mariners, who also demoted first baseman Dae-Ho Lee to Triple-A Tacoma. The Brewers activated outfielder Damien Magnifico before Fridays game and brought up Suter to make his debut.Milwaukee almost pulled a memorable ninth-inning comeback but fell just short.Lets keep trying to put ourselves in that situation, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said, and one of these nights well get it done.
