The move itself should not be too surprising. Bryant Young came in with his Hall of Fame pedigree but the former player failed to get much progress out of the defensive line. We expected Bryant to get fired this offseason after underwhelming seasons from Vic Beasley and Takkarist McKinley. Neither top player developed and neither looked particularly well coached.Now he’s likely gone as his replacement has reportedly been hired.Simpson was previously with the Falcons as a defensive assistant. Here’s what we had to say about Simpson on his first stint with the team.Since that time, Simpson coached the Miami defensive line under former UGA head coach Mark Richt. It looks like a step up from Young who appeared to be out of coaching the five years before getting the job with Quinn, and only had three years of defensive line coaching experience in college. Simpson has more success but obviously his pro experience is limited to his prior time with the Falcons.Quinn desperately needs the defensive line to transform this season if he expects to keep his job into 2020. Simpson has a lot of work to do to get Beasley and McKinley up to speed.Update: the team has confirmed Young is no longer with the team. If the reason is true it explains why the move is happening so much later than other coaching changes. If you were the Falcons front office, you’d probably use it to exercise a decidedly mediocre pass rusher’s 5th year option. As frustrating players go, Beasley stands out from the pack. His 15.5 sacks in 2016 were surely an anomaly De’Vondre Campbell Jersey 2019 , and no one is trying to hold him to that standard, but we know he’s not playing to his true potential. Beasley’s ceiling is likely somewhere between that monstrous 2016 campaign and what we’ve seen over the past couple seasons. No one is saying he has to be otherworldly, but it’d sure be nice if he were consistent. Including Beasley, the Falcons currently have three defensive ends on their roster. Knowing that Black Deion Jones Jersey , it’d be logical to assume the Falcons intend to rely heavily on him in 2019. But hold your horses, because that might not be the case. While they are surely betting on a resurgence from Beasley, they’d be smart to hedge their bet with some quality draft picks. for at least one more year. But in any case, his role will be more clearly defined after the draft wraps.
