TORONTO - Manager John Gibbons is shuffling his struggling starting rotation through the early part of the week. J.A. Happ will pitch Mondays series finale against the Oakland Athletics. Todd Redmond will be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and pitch Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox. Josh Johnson, who was scheduled to pitch on Monday, moves to Wednesday. Esmil Rogers will return to the bullpen. Got it? First, Johnson: The big right-hander experienced tightness in his right forearm during his most recent start, a 7-2 win over the Seattle Mariners last Tuesday. "During the game it got a little tight but it was no big deal," Johnson told TSN.ca. "Woke up the next day and it was pretty sore and then it just kind of stayed sore. (Saturday) and (Sunday) its been feeling much, much better." Johnson has made minor mechanical adjustments in an effort to better stay on top of his pitches. He wasnt sure if the adjustments were the reason for his discomfort. He insists the issue isnt serious. "No panic," said Johnson. Happ will throw on regular rest, a luxury afforded him and the ballclub by last Thursdays off day. Following Mondays start, Happ will leave the team to attend his grandfathers funeral. The Blue Jays dont have to make a formal roster move on Redmond until Tuesday. One option would be to place Happ on the bereavement list, which would require him to miss a minimum of three games, irrelevant given that hes a starting pitcher who works every fifth day. Rogers went 2-5 with a 5.48 ERA in 13 starts. His problems have spiked of late. Rogers has allowed 22 runs (20 earned) in his last three starts. With 96 2/3 innings pitched this season, Rogers is well beyond his previous career high set in 2011 when he threw 83 innings in 18 appearances (13 starts) for Colorado. 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHRISTIE PITS RIOT Many thanks to the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto and The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs for inviting me to be part of Sunday mornings media softball game at Christie Pits. The incident occurred on August 16, 1933, after a playoff baseball game between the predominantly Jewish Harbord Playground and St. Peters. A group of Nazi sympathizers descended on the park and displayed a swastika. Later, when confronted, a large fight broke out which grew to include about 10,000 people and lasted for six hours. HELSINKI, Finland -- Defending champion Russia was upset 2-1 by France, which shocked a team dominated by NHL and KHL players at hockey worlds on Thursday. Russia lost to a group of mainly French league players, who ended its 13-match winning streak at the world championship. "Its so big for French hockey, its hard to describe," France coach Dave Henderson said. France wasnt good enough to play Russia or the Soviet Union until 1992. It had lost all six previous games, the last 7-2 in 2009. All the goals on Thursday were scored in the middle period. Alexander Perezhogin gave Russia the lead at 6:57, shortly after teammate Aleksandr Radulov missed a penalty shot. France forward Damien Fleury evened the score at 9:52 with a slap shot. Antoine Roussel, Frances lone NHL player, scored the winner at 16:48 when he broke in from the left and backhanded through Vasili Koshechkins legs. Both teams fielded their third-string goalkeepers. Frances Florian Hardy fiinished with 28 saves, and Koshechkin 17.dddddddddddd "It was my first start, an unbelievably good result for us," Hardy said. "I dont know what to say, Im so happy. When I watched the clock with five minutes to play, I thought that this is for real, that it is possible to win. "All the team played an unbelievable game defensively. When the Russian player took the penalty shot and I stopped it, I just followed the puck and that was it." Frances second win in four games gives it a good chance of staying in the premier group at the worlds and an outside chance of making the quarterfinals with a top-four finish in its group. It still has to play the United States, Latvia and Germany. In Stockholm, the Czech Republic beat Denmark 2-1 after a shootout, with Zbynek Irgl scoring on his teams fifth and sixth shots. Zbynek Michalek scored in the last period for the Czechs and Morten Poulsen tied the game with four minutes to go. ' ' '
