When South Carolina?dealt with major flooding across the state last fall, it was LSU?who came to the rescue. Now its the University of?South Carolinas turn to return the favor.In response to the recent flooding that has affected Baton Rouge and the LSU community, South Carolina is organizing a collection of items at different spots campus this week, and those items will then be sent to the flood victims in Louisiana.LSU was so gracious to assist us in our time of need, South Carolina president Harris Pastides said in a statement. I encourage all Gamecocks to drop off items needed for the Baton Rouge flood relief.According to the release, the items in need from the Baton Rouge community include baby and adult diapers, baby formula, canned foods (with pop tops), foods in plastic containers such as peanut butter and jelly, individually packaged crackers, snacks and breakfast bars, multi-packaged cereal, new and unopened socks, underwear, towels, and blankets.I would like to encourage everyone to donate to help our friends in the Baton Rouge area that need our assistance, South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner said.In October 2015, South Carolina was scheduled to host LSU in a cross-division matchup, but because of flooding across the state, the game was played at LSUs Tiger Stadium. "Its tough when youve been in a situation like me for 15 years," Pierce said. But hes getting used to it, and he and Kevin Garnett are ready to make the most of their new surroundings. Traded from Boston to Brooklyn, the duo was introduced along with Jason Terry on Thursday at a news conference at Barclays Center, their new home. Pierce said it was difficult to leave the city where hed spent his entire career. He appeared dazed at times while listening to questions and answers, even having to ask for one to be repeated while trying to fight his way out of a fog. "You saw the trade and its like, OK, theres a trade. But for me to actually be here now, looking for a place to live, being in this arena, trying to get to know my way around the city, its really starting to sink in now that its become real," Pierce said. "Im no longer a Boston Celtic, Im a Brooklyn Net and thats what it is right now," he continued. "Its a business. At some point we all have to move on and Im here to try to create some kind of legacy here in Brooklyn."
