TORONTO -- Henry Burris threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Ernest Jackson in overtime and the Ottawa Redblacks won the Grey Cup on Sunday night, upsetting the Calgary Stampeders 39-33.The third-year Redblacks won their first Canadian Football League title, and gave Ottawa its 10th championship. The Rough Riders won the last of their seven titles in 1976, and the Senators won in 1925 and 1926. The Redblacks lost to Edmonton last year in the title game. For all those haters out there, their organizations havent won a Grey Cup in decades, but ours, in three years, here we are, Grey Cup champions, the 41-year-old Burris said.Calgary was favored by double digits after finishing the regular season 15-2-1. The Redblacks, at 8-9-1, were the first team to finish first in a division with a losing record. After Jackson bobbled but made the touchdown catch on the first possession of overtime, Burris missed the wide-open Khalil Paden on the mandatory 2-point conversion try.I didnt even know E.J. kind of bobbled it, Burris said. I didnt even know it was a completed pass, because it hit his hands and all of a sudden I see it bounce and I was thinking, `Awww! Then all of a sudden I hear everyone go crazy and I was like, `Did it just happen? Did we just score? I think little plays like that just showed you that this was our moment.Calgary needed to match Ottawas six points, but went three-and-out. Bo Levi Mitchells third-down pass went off Bakari Grants hands to give Ottawa one of the biggest upset victories in Grey Cup history.Burris won the game MVP award for the second time, completing 35 of 46 passes for 461 yards and three touchdowns. The former Temple star also ran for two scores after injuring a knee in warmups.I knew I wasnt going to be the typical running guy that I usually am, but as long as I could come out here and make good, quick decisions and get the ball out of my hand ... maybe I could do enough to help put our team in a position to be successful, Burris said.Burris also was the Grey Cup MVP with the Stampeders in 2008 in their victory over Montreal at Olympic Stadium. He was Jeff Garcias backup with the 1998 champion Stampeders. The Stampeders rallied from 20 points down to force overtime. DaVaris Daniels scored on a 19-yard run with 1:38 left to cut it to 33-30. Glenn Love recovered Rob Mavers onside kick at Calgarys 49, and Rene Paredes tied it with a 10-yard field goal in the final second. If you dont like ups and downs and all that kind of stuff, then footballs not a good profession to be in, Ottawa coach Rick Campbell said. But I think thats why everybody loves it.Mitchell threw three interceptions for the Stampeders.Burris led Ottawa to a 20-7 lead at halftime, completing 20 of 25 passes for 266 yards and one touchdown -- a 6-yarder to Patrick Lavoie. Burris also threw a 9-yard scoring pass to Brad Sinopoli in the third quarter. It was the third Grey Cup game to go to overtime and first since 2005 when Edmonton beat Montreal 38-35 in Vancouver. BATON ROUGE, La. -- Jalen Hurts broke loose for a 21-yard touchdown run to break a scoreless tie early in the fourth quarter, and No. 1 Alabamas defense thoroughly stifled Leonard Fournette and LSU in a 10-0 victory over the No. 13 Tigers on Saturday night. The Crimson Tide (9-0, 6-0) won for the sixth straight time against LSU (5-3, 3-2) and remained alone in first place in the SEC West -- a game ahead of Auburn.Hurts, a freshman who has exceeded expectations by establishing himself as one of the most dynamic, explosive players in college football, was the games leading rusher with 114 yards on 20 carries. He also completed 10 of 19 passes for 107 yards.LSU had had its share of big plays -- but all on defense, forcing Hurts into an early interception and late fumble. But LSUs offense could not capitalize against menacing defensive end Jonathan Allen and the rest of Alabamas suffocating defense. The Tigers finished with just 125 total yards. Fournette, whose 2015 Heisman Trophy hopes faded when he was held to 31 yards on 19 carries in Tuscaloosa last year, had 35 yards on 17 carries. One game after touchdown runs of 78, 76 and 59 yards against Mississippi, Fournettes longest run against the Crimson Tide was 9 yards.LSUs Danny Etling completed 11 of 24 passes for 92 yards and also was intercepted once in the fourth quarter, leading to a late Alabama field goal. Alabama had five sacks, one more than LSUs offense had allowed in any other game this season. Allen, linebackers Rashaan Evans and Ryan Anderson; and end Dalvin Tomlinson each sacked Etling, while Rueben Foster and Tim Williams combined on a sack. Both teams entered the game with highly respected, play-making defenses and those units dictated the play most of the game, which was scoreless through three quarters.LSU intercepted Hurts pass on the games opening possession, but could not mmove the ball and had to settle for a field goal try, which was partially blocked by Alabamas Ronnie Harrison.ddddddddddddAlabama did not drive into field goal range until about 6 minutes remained in the second quarter, but Adam Griffiths kick hooked wide left.At the end of the first half, a defensive stand by LSU deep in Alabama territory got the Tigers the ball back at the Crimson Tide 47, but Alabamas defense did not allow LSU to approach field goal range. The Tide appeared to be on the brink of the games first points after Hurts lofted a pin-point, play-action pass deep down the middle of the field to ArDarius Stewart for a 52-yard gain to the LSU 8, but four plays later, LSU linebacker Duke Riley and end Arden Key dropped Hurts for a 5-yard loss on fourth-and-goal from the 1.The Tigers defense came up big yet again when end Frank Heron sacked and stripped Hurts, and Key recovered on the Alabama 42. But the LSU offense only went backward, hurt by a delay-of-game and intentional grounding penalties.THE TAKEAWAYAlabama: LSU coach Ed Orgeron said earlier this week that Alabama might have the best defense in college football history, and he might be right.LSU: As much as LSU has tried open up its offense by changing formations and passing more, Etling didnt have the poise, or the blocking to succeed against Alabama. LSUs running game suffered because of the Tigers inability to throw.POLL IMPLICATIONSAlabama: Alabama continues to strengthen its case as the best team in the nation.LSU: The Tigers might not tumble out of the Top 25 because of how close it played the nations top team, but it will fall.UP NEXTAlabama: The Tide hosts Mississippi State next Saturday.LSU: The Tigers travel to meet Arkansas next weekend.
