Ask Day, who cant help but say exactly how he feels at any given moment, he will respond with a thoughtful answer about the current state of his health instead of deflecting his answer.As such, it seems like theres always something wrong with him, simply because he admits it. Forget the fact that theres absolutely no motive for him to soft-pedal an injury. Not this week, as he was fourth in the FedEx Cup race entering the tournament, very much alive for the $10 million first-place prize. And not this day, as hed followed an opening-round 3-under 67 by playing his first seven holes in even-par, well within striking distance of the tournament leader Dustin Johnson at 7 under.Days management team called it a precautionary measure, not wanting to cause further harm to a strained ligament in his lower right back.Some will insist this was a smart move to avoid risking greater injury by continuing to play through it. Other will maintain that it was too cautious, pointing out the fact that he isnt scheduled to compete again for two months after this weekend.If this was a standalone situation, it wouldnt be questioned. For Day, who so often vocalizes his maladies, its part of that ever-growing reputation.Days wide-ranging list of afflictions only blurs the narrative.At last years U.S. Open, he collapsed during the second round due to a bout with vertigo, a scary moment that wasnt taken lightly.
