ATLANTA -- Jason Day is the worlds No. 1-ranked player, a major champion, a winner of eight titles since the beginning of last year. Hes ultra-talented, likeable and honest -- everything we should want in an elite-level golfer. And yet, its that last part -- the honesty -- that seems to have cultivated a growing reputation. Days withdrawal from the Tour Championship on Friday afternoon due to a lingering back injury, two weeks after withdrawing from the BMW Championship for the same reason, wont do much to extinguish this perception. That reputation? Hes soft.It seems like he loves the drama, said one fellow PGA Tour player, speaking on the condition of anonymity. The only reason Im surprised is because he withdrew before he started playing poorly, which makes me think he might be more hurt than usual. If you ask most PGA Tour players a perfunctory, How you doing? youll receive the usual cursory response. Ask Day, who cant help but say exactly how he feels at any given moment, he will respond with a thoughtful answer about the current state of his health instead of deflecting his answer. As such, it seems like theres always something wrong with him, simply because he admits it. Forget the fact that theres absolutely no motive for him to soft-pedal an injury. Not this week, as he was fourth in the FedEx Cup race entering the tournament, very much alive for the $10 million first-place prize. And not this day, as hed followed an opening-round 3-under 67 by playing his first seven holes in even-par, well within striking distance of the tournament leader Dustin Johnson at 7 under.Days management team called it a precautionary measure, not wanting to cause further harm to a strained ligament in his lower right back. Some will insist this was a smart move to avoid risking greater injury by continuing to play through it. Other will maintain that it was too cautious, pointing out the fact that he isnt scheduled to compete again for two months after this weekend. If this was a standalone situation, it wouldnt be questioned. For Day, who so often vocalizes his maladies, its part of that ever-growing reputation.Days wide-ranging list of afflictions only blurs the narrative. At last years U.S. Open, he collapsed during the second round due to a bout with vertigo, a scary moment that wasnt taken lightly. Other times, he has griped about having the sniffles -- just another byproduct of that inherent honesty. If it seems like theres never a time when there isnt some sort of drama surrounding Days health, thats because its true. Lets take the days prior to each of this years four major championships, for example. The Masters: Its the same old bulged disc that Ive always had, but every now and then, it flares up and you just cant do anything about it.The U.S. Open: Im at the back end of a cold. You can probably hear it in my voice, but Im fine. Its not an excuse. The Open Championship: I just popped something [in my rib]. You know, like when you crack your knuckle. But its all good. The PGA Championship: Im OK; Im fine. Im just a little bit under the weather.A cynic might refer to this as the Grand Slam of physical maladies, but theres greater meaning within each of these answers to media questions about his health. In each, Day is -- once again -- honest, without using these injuries and illnesses as a crutch. Hes quick to let the questioner know that he isnt 100 percent, but even quicker to insist that it wont prevent him from playing his best golf that week. To wit: His finishes at those four majors were T-10, T-8, T-22 and second, respectively. It should be noted that Day has always idolized Tiger Woods and now considers him a close friend and mentor. It should also be noted that there are some strong parallels between Days penchant for physical drama and that of Woods, who has withdrawn from nine tournaments in his career and six since the 2010 season.Just as Woods injuries were often viewed by the public through a skeptical prism, so too are Days, even the latest one, despite the fact that there would be no ulterior motive for cutting his season short by two days while still in contention for the title.Even so, those parallels exist. As reporters stood around in the East Lake Golf Club players parking lot Friday afternoon, waiting on the worlds No. 1-ranked player to drive away after a withdrawal, the melancholy scene felt all too familiar. Adidas Tubular Shadow Norge .B. -- The Baie-Comeau Drakkar took over sole possession of first place atop the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Thursday with their sixth straight win. Sydney FC deserve to be top of the A-League but owe a lot of their success this season to sheer luck, according to Brisbane Roar defender Jade North.Riding high on the back of a six-game winning streak, the Sky Blues take on the Roar - who are unbeaten in their last four games - at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.A win for the visitors will equal the best-ever start to an A-League season by any team, while third-placed Brisbane can reduce the margin between the sides to five points if they can produce an upset. However, as impressive as theyve been, North believes Sydney have been quite fortunate not to have let in more goals.Obviously Sydney are flying at the moment but having said that, theyve been quite lucky as well, not conceding as many as I thought they maybe should have, North told reporters on Tuesday. They deserve to be where they are but Perth were a little bit unlucky on the weekend with a couple of chances. But youve got to ride your luck sometimes. Theyve been quite dominnant in the front third.ddddddddddddBoth sides should be at full strength, with Brisbane to regain striker Jamie Maclaren, who made his competitive debut for the Socceroos in Tuesday nights 2-2 draw with Thailand.Sydney has won just three times in 17 attempts at Suncorp Stadium but wont be taking any notice of history after setting two new records - the longest winning sequence in club history, and the most goals (17) scored by any team in the first six rounds of a season.Asked if the Sky Blues would be Brisbanes biggest test this season, North said: To this point in time, it will be.Weve got some great players all over the park and I feel we can really hurt them as well.Defensively weve been quite solid over the last month and when we start hitting teams and getting some confidence and getting goals, were not too far away from giving a team a good hiding.
